Micro-Needling
Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is an innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance.
SkinPen is appropriate for all skin types. The SkinPen microneedling device creates hundreds of tiny micro-channels in the skin with minimal damage to the epidermis.*
SkinPen disrupts the junctions between the skin cells, temporarily disrupting the skin’s barrier function. This brief, mechanical disruption does not cause the melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) in the epidermis to react by increasing pigment production and darkening the skin in a process called hyperpigmentation. Therefore, SkinPen can be used on all skin types, including darker skin that is more susceptible to hyperpigmentation. *
Monarch Aesthetic Medicine also offers options of adding PRP to microneedling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What areas of the body can be treated?
The micropen can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
How is the procedure done?
A sterile cartridge is attached to the micropen for each individual patient.
A thin layer of topical gel is applied to your skin and the appropriate pen setting is selected based on your unique needs.
Next, in a single motion, the pen is gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
What does it feel like?
The feeling is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. Some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more easily tolerated.
How long does the procedure take?
15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What is the downtime?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin, similar to sunburn. The total healing time depends on the micropen setting used and the number of overlapping passes performed.
When will I see the results?
Patients often notice a “glow” to their skin after treatment. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve after treatment as collagen production begins.
How many treatments will I need?
Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve desired results. However, it is recommended that most patients to receive a series of treatments.
Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars may find it necessary to receive multiple treatments to achieve desired results.
