What Is Laser Hair Reduction?

While there are many choices for laser hair removal in the central Ohio area, Monarch Aesthetic Medicine remains an expert in the field for over a decade providing safe, effective, fast, and affordable treatments to patients with all skin types.  Laser hair removal is a popular, non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses concentrated light beams (lasers) to target and damage hair follicles, hindering their ability to produce new hair. This results in a reduction of unwanted hair growth and thickness, offering a long-term solution compared to traditional methods like shaving or waxing.

We have 3 devices that are used to provide laser hair removal to ensure we have safe options for all skin types. Most commonly we are using the Lumenis Lightsheer Duet Laser System. This laser uses state-of-the-art 805nm diode laser technology, which is the preferred method and the industry's 'Gold Standard' in laser hair reduction.  Laser hair removal targets the entire hair structure, from the hair shaft, down to the follicle. We also offer IPL hair removal; and a 1064 laser suitable for darker skin.

FAQs

  • Common treatment areas include face, neck, underarms, chest, abdomen, bikini/brazilian, legs and back. The laser treatments will only work on dark hair and will not target or improve light blonde, red, white, or brown hairs.

  • Yes, you will need to shave prior to your appointment. You also need to come with your skin clean and free of all makeup, lotion, oils, deodorant, or other topical products. You need to avoid waxing or plucking hairs for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment; if there are no hairs in the follicle, it will not work. You need to avoid sun exposure for several weeks prior to your appointment as well. The lasers are attracted to pigment so it increases the risk of burning and having hyper/hypopigmentation issues; this includes real sun, tanning beds, spray tan, at home tan, and body make up.

  • It is common to have some mild irritation and follicle inflammation post treatment that can look and feel like a slight red rash or sun burn. 

  • A la carte pricing for small areas starts at $49/treatment. We do not offer package pricing as patients all need a different number of treatments. Larger body areas can be up to $199/treatment. We also offer a 30 minute unlimited appointment for $249 where we can treat multiple areas in one session.

  • We cannot predict how many treatments you will need as many factors go into the success of treatments including genetics, hormones, compliance, tolerance, etc. On average most body areas will take between 5-10 treatments with some potential maintenance down the road.
